I've not been to one of these things before, so I'm looking foward to the gathering aspect. I hope to meet some cool people, and probably a few talented people too. I think you're probably right to have a few concerns about global companies. Shame the companies that report on the ethics of large corps also charge quite a bit to view their research too. Though like you say the evidence is hardly superficial. It would be good to be able to champion the alternatives though. Maybe geekUp and another corp should organise a northern API collaborative fest of some description. There is a lot to be proud of up north, and Im a southerner really. I think any event of the scale of inviting 500+ people would need some sort of sponsorship. Probably from a corporate of some description. Who will probably have something that isn't all that ethical about them. Who knows though. I think a northern event like this would certainly be possible....??? Anyways Im rambling.
